About Where To Start With

About Us

Where to Start With was born from a need that we found ourselves having, we would be recommended an artist/band by a friend, or hear a track or two which we liked, but when we went to get an album to try we found they had a few releases.

Now unless the band in question is flawless they are bound to have a few not-so-great albums amongst their back catalogue. So where do you start with this band? You could just pick an album in a suck-it-and-see kind of way. If you do that and end up with one of the poorer albums chances are you're not going to persist with the artist and may pass them over forever. However if you're lucky and pick a great release you may just find your new favourite artist.

You can keep up with what we are doing and the additions we make to Where to Start With by following our blog.

About the articles

Also recommended
Another good release to try.
Wildcard
A release that may not be "the norm" for the artist, could be interesting.

Yes, some users will also tell you what to avoid.

Anyone can and should feel free to add an artist and/or their opinion of an artist to Where to Start With. We have tried to make Where to Start With as easy as possible to add new artists and opinions.

Why would I want to use Where to Start With?

Whereas other sites and services may give you reviews, the most popular or most listened to albums those may not necessarily be the best releases to start off with a new artist.

For instance I hardly ever listen to Nirvana's "Nevermind" album any more, however this obviously would be the album I would recommend anyone new to Nirvana should start out with.

But going further than that after you have tried the "essential" release Where to Start With helps you with which release to follow that with and even sometimes what to avoid.
